The inaugural broadcast of The Hawk Report, a local broadcast-news program, aired Sunday, Feb. 9, on WIUP-FM 90.1, the independent, non-commercial radio station on the Indiana University of Pennsylvania campus.
The half-hour, every-other-week show combines the best journalism of the campus newspaper The Penn, the online newspaper The HawkEye and the IUP chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists to report timely news, features, profiles and analysis relevant to the community.
The Feb. 9 broadcast featured interviews of two local newsmakers:
Taralyn E. Federoff, a senior IUP political-science and anthropology double major who last fall ran a competitive but unsuccessful write-in campaign for a seat on Indiana borough council to represent IUP students amid fractious town-gown relations. Producer Kelsey Breunig reports.
Marissa A. Olean, president of IUP’s Student Government Association, reviews a busy agenda, including paying students to fill empty seats at SGA meetings, changing SGA’s constitution, paying more than $20,000 of student funds for software that facilitates communication between student groups on campus, and more. Penn editor Dave Gershgorn reports.
